Sports Minister Inspects National Stadium, Surulere, Restates Commitment to Restore Glory of Infrastructure:

_Says public-private partnership is key for sports development, appreciates investors._  As part of his ongoing efforts to assess the state of major sports facilities in the country, Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh inspected the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on Thursday. Senator Enoh started his inspection from the stadium complex, where he visited the National Institute of Sports, the boxing complex, mainbowl of the stadium, sports medical centre, indoor sports hall and other facilities. He also inspected the Games Village hostels, Legacy Pitch, Power House, as well as the courts for different sports. During his briefing at the stadium, John Enoh said “this facility built around the 1960’s, has been put to use functionally, including during the 2nd All African Games (1973). Minister of Sports Development John Owan Enoh has commended sports journalists in the country under the aegis of Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for their contributions to sports development in the country. The minister received the leadership of the body in Abuja, on Tuesday. He applauded sports journalists for their willingness to be partners in the development of sports in Nigeria. He restated his commitment in working with sports journalists to foster development in sector, by effectively giving the media a sense of belonging. Sports Minister Welcomes Nigeria’s Delegation from the World Athletics Championships:

_Assures increased funding for athletics_ The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh was present at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at about 12:08am, on Tuesday, to receive Nigeria’s delegation from the World Athletics Championship that took place in Budapest, Hungary. The team of 25 athletes, comprising 11 males and 15 female athletes, including Women’s 100m hurdles world record holder, Tobi Amusan flew the White and Green flag at the annual track and field event. Enoh, who was appointed sports minister a few days before the commencement of the Championship in Budapest, said that he needed to be physically present to welcome the athletes, to signal his commitment towards increased attention for athletics. “Infrastructure and Facilities are Key Components for Our Athletes’ Success” - Sports Minister.

Minister of Sports Development Senator John Owan Enoh has stated that his administration will prioritize infrastructure and facilities development, as they are key for Nigeria to achieve success in sports. Enoh made the statement known to his media team in Abuja, capping off his first week in office. “Facilities and infrastructures are a key component of sports, as they are variables that drive both elite performance and grassroots development", Enoh said. The minister described the Abuja stadium as a national monument that can stand toe to toe with contemporaries across Africa, when completely turned around. “It is very important that we get it right with our facilities. We must maintain the current infrastructures that we have, and look towards making them better to match what we have across the world.” The minister said that he will assess the state of other facilities and infrastructure across the country and ensure they are elevated as needed.
