EYE ON TOKYO OLYMPICS

Image
Eye on Tokyo 2020: DAY 8  The Chitty Chat with Sunday Dare.  'The Eye on Tokyo 2020' is perched on an invisible drone in the ceiling of Room XYZ, at the Grand Prince Hotel, New Takanawa, in downtown Tokyo. This is where Chief Sunday Dare, Nigeria's Minister for Youth and Sports is staying for the Olympic Games.  'The Eye' is looking down on the pad on which the minister is scribbling responses prompted by a 'mind energy' that seems to be working. It settles down to observe and to record.  Of course, this is not your usual interview.  It is, at best, a telepathic encounter  between 'The Eye' and the Mind of a Minister. 'The Eye' is not interested in the technical details of the teams at the Olympic Games. It wants, simply, to take a peep into the mind of a man that came, not from sports, but from journalism, to lead Nigerian sports. How has he fared?  This is the Chitty-chat.  The Eye:  This is your first Olympics. What is your impressio...

TOKYO 2020NE: HALF WAY SCORE CARD

Image
Tokyo 2020ne; Half way score card. By Akin Bolarinwa.  Despite the fact that we are yet to win any medal at the on going Tokyo Olympics in Japan, most of our young athletes have achieved personal bests.  Our young swimmer, Habibat, broke one of the longest standing national records, swimming under 1 minute in the 100 meter freestyle event.  Our young Taekwondo player, at her first Olympics was not disgraced by a top competitor.  Our mixed relay athletes were first to represent Africa and set the a new record for Nigeria and for our continent.   Team Nigeria to the Tokyo Olympics is perhaps one of the youngest with new discoveries. Team Nigeria has 39 athletes who are coming to the Olympics for the very first time as debutants and almost 20 of them are below 25 years.   It is important to say that many of them were matched against athletes who are world number 1, or have been to 2-3 Olympics. With this young Team Nigeria, we are building a future ...

GOD IS NOT UNJUST: SPARE THE SPORTS MINISTER

Image
GOD IS NOT UNJUST:  -Spare The Sports Minister Having been reading the postulations here all day, some are factual while some are hilarious and very entertaining.  The imbroglio rocking team Nigeria in Tokyo didn't just start today and it is unwise to blame HM Sunday Dare for all these mess created by some people who are no longer in power. For those of us who are keen followers of Federation sports in Nigeria, we know much but we pick different targets to aim for. HM Dare like Bolaji Abdulahi inherited so many wahala and in trying to solve them created little bags of worries of their own. Danagogo is even worst, the novice minister was there for his own business and not interested in the development of our games. I remember quickly what happened to the IMG contract and the "I must take my share" which impeded and ended the contract even before it was offered.  Solo- Dalung is another contractor, though he instilled discipline and stopped the ineptitude within the s...
