Ethiopian runner Habtamu Birhane has made history by winning the inaugural Yenagoa City International 10KM Race in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. He crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 29:23 minutes, claiming the top prize of $5,000. Birhane's victory was followed by Nigerian runners Gang James (29:59 minutes) and Francis James (30:16 minutes), who secured second and third places, respectively. They will take home $3,000 and $2,000, respectively. In the women's category, Ethiopian athletes dominated the podium, with Shewaye Dugo Tolosa (33:50 minutes), Tigist Girma (34:07 minutes), and Gacasho Jilo (34:57 minutes) taking the top three spots. The National Sports Commission, NSC, has announced a formidable list of membership to serve in the Main Organising Committee, MOC, for the maiden edition of National Intermediate Games scheduled to be held later this year in Lagos state. The National Intermediate Games is one of the many forward thinking initiatives birthed by the current leadership of the NSC led by Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon Bukola Olopade to further earnest the sports production mandate of the new NSC under the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria Sports Economy ( RHINSE ). The Intermediate Games was also established to create a scientific and organic pathway for athletes who are above 15 years of age after attending the National Youth Games. Doma United FC has already secured promotion from Northern Conference Group C, ending Lobi Stars' NPFL hopes.
