4 Days to Go: Yenagoa Set for Global Spotlight as Nilayo Reveals Additional Prize Money for New Group Run for Maiden 10KM Race:
Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML), Africa’s leading sports marketing and management agency, has unveiled an attractive prize structure for the inaugural Yenagoa City International 10KM Race, scheduled for April 4, 2026.
Themed “The Reveal (Bayelsa Wua!),” the race is strategically designed to position Bayelsa State as a rising hub for international road racing while celebrating and rewarding outstanding athletic talent.
The 10KM race, which will commence from Opollo Roundabout, reflects global best practices and reinforces the organizers’ ambition to deliver a truly world-class sporting experience in the Niger Delta.
To ensure broad-based recognition, the prize framework is divided into two key categories: the International Elite Category and the Nigerian Category.
In the International Elite division, male and female winners will each receive $10,000, while second- and third-place finishers will earn $5,000 and $3,000, respectively.
Complementing this is a strong local incentive structure under the Nigerian Category, where the fastest male and female Nigerian athletes will each take home ₦1,000,000. Second-place finishers will receive ₦500,000, while third-place athletes will earn ₦300,000.
Beyond elite competition, organizers have introduced an innovative Group Run Experience aimed at expanding participation and strengthening community bonds. In this category, teams of five runners will compete collectively, with a total of ₦1,000,000 set aside as instant rewards. The first ten teams to cross the finish line together at Peace Park will each receive ₦100,000.
Speaking on the initiative, Managing Director/CEO of NSML, Yetunde Olopade, described the Group Run Experience as a platform that blends fitness, unity, and social connection. She noted that regular participants of the Weekly Prosperity Walk are especially encouraged to step up the challenge, running together, finishing together, and winning together.
With its blend of elite incentives and grassroots engagement, the Yenagoa City International 10KM Race is set to redefine sports development in Nigeria’s South-South region, while placing Bayelsa firmly on the global athletics map.
