Nigeria’s Para-Badminton Aces Set Sights on Bahrain World Championships:

 PRESS STATEMENT

Nigeria has officially flagged off its para-badminton campaign for the 2025 World Championships in Bahrain, with Paralympic bronze medallist and world number two, Eniola Bolaji, spearheading the three-athlete delegation.

The championship, scheduled for February 8 to 14, will see Bolaji return to the international scene for the second time this year, following a commanding gold medal outing at the Egypt International Championship in January. Her recent performances underline Nigeria’s growing strength in para-badminton on the global stage.

Joining Bolaji on the trip are Paris 2024 Paralympian Chigozie Jeremiah, who will compete in the men’s SL4 category, and Chinyere Okoro, Nigeria’s lone entrant in the women’s SL4 event.

The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, reaffirmed the Commission’s focus on inclusive sports development and sustained international exposure for para-athletes.

“Our mandate is clear, to give every Nigerian athlete, including those in para-sports, the opportunity to excel on the world stage,” Olopade said. “This trip reflects our commitment to structured preparation, athlete welfare, and long-term growth of para-badminton in Nigeria.”

President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, described the team as competition-ready, pointing to a rigorous four-week preparation programme held in Abuja ahead of the trip.

“The athletes have put in the work and are mentally and physically ready for the challenge in Bahrain,” Orbih said. “Eniola is competing with confidence after her success in Egypt, while Chigozie and Chinyere have shown remarkable improvement and determination during camp.”

Orbih also praised the continued backing of the National Sports Commission alongside corporate partners, noting that such support has made it possible for Nigerian athletes to remain active in international ranking competitions.

Nigeria’s representatives will be aiming not only for podium finishes in Bahrain, but also for valuable ranking points as they continue to raise the country’s profile in global para-badminton.
