Nigeria, 39 Other Nations Jostle for World Relays Pride and Prize:

A lucrative prize purse is a major highlight of the World Athletics Relays 2026, with teams battling for medals and also for significant financial rewards. Winners in each relay event will take home $40,000, while second and third place earn $20,000 and $10,000 respectively. 

Teams finishing eighth are guaranteed $2,000, underlining the high stakes and fierce competition expected among the 40 participating nations.

The championship has drawn 723 athletes from across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania, setting the stage for an intense showdown among global sprint powerhouses and emerging relay teams. 

Traditional giants such as the United States, Jamaica, and Great Britain are once again in the mix, alongside strong African contenders including host Botswana, South Africa, and Kenya.

Amid this competitive field, Team Nigeria made a good impression on Day One, delivering a record-shattering performances in the mixed 4x100m and getting an opportunity at the repechage to make amends in other events.

With qualification secured in the mixed relay and renewed opportunities ahead in other events, Nigeria’s relay teams hope to continue to inspire and signal a promising future on the global athletics stage.
