Federal Polytechnic Ayede- Administrative Recklessness and Allegations of Embezzlement:
By Aremu Ezekiel Olarinre
In the heart of Ogbomosho, the Federal Polytechnic Ayede-Ogbomosho, established in 2022, has come under intense scrutiny as allegations of administrative recklessness and embezzlement of academic funds surface. Despite billions of Naira allocated to the institution over the years, stakeholders are left questioning the tangible outcomes of such investments.
Reports indicate that the current Rector, Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abd-Hameed has allegedly filled key administrative positions with numerous allies, often placing them in roles above other staff with merit. This practice not only raises concerns about favoritism and nepotism but also undermines the morale of meritorious employees who feel marginalized in the institution.
The construction of the permanent campus site, which was expected to symbolize progress and development, has stagnated significantly, with little to no visible advancements. The situation is further exacerbated by the alarming collapse of the gatehouse, which has reportedly fallen four times, casting doubt on the integrity of other buildings on campus. Such incidents raise serious concerns about the management of construction projects and the quality of work being undertaken.
In a bid to address these pressing issues, a community representative in the person of Reverend Dr. Abraham Akinola Okunade, reached out to the Governing Council, urging them to investigate the alleged mismanagement and irregularities. However, rather than prompting an inquiry, the individual faced intimidation and threats from the Rector, who pressured him to retract his concerns, highlighting a culture of fear and suppression within the institution.
The situation at Federal Polytechnic Ayede-Ogbomosho calls for urgent intervention from national bodies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). As allegations of embezzlement and administrative malpractice mount, it is imperative for these organizations to scrutinize the management of funds and ensure accountability for the future of the institution.
The community and stakeholders are left in a state of uncertainty, hoping for transparency and justice as they navigate the fallout from these troubling revelations. The future of Federal Polytechnic Ayede-Ogbomosho hangs in the balance, and the need for reform has never been more pressing.
