NNL 2025/2026: Sporting Lagos Seal NPFL Return With Narrow Win, Complete City’s Top-flight Trio:

It is crystal that Sporting Lagos have gained promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League in dramatic style on Thursday, grinding out a 1-0 victory away at Osun United to finish as champions of the NNL Southern Conference A.

Striker Alex Leme was the hero of the day, rising highest to nod home a pinpoint cross in the 17th minute. That lone goal proved decisive, sealing three priceless points and sparking celebrations that stretched from Osogbo back to the streets of Lagos.

The win took Sporting Lagos to 33 points, enough to hold off a strong challenge from second-placed Akwa United, who failed to keep the promise. The Uyo-based outfit also ended their campaign with victory over Solution FC, but it wasn't enough to book their spot in the NPFL.

With promotion secured, Sporting Lagos will now join Inter Lagos, who also topped their NNL grouping, in the top flight next season. They become the third Lagos club in the NPFL, lining up alongside Ikorodu United, who have steadily built their reputation in the league over several seasons.

Meanwhile, Doma United of Gombe State had earlier booked their spot in the NPFL, while sports enthusiasts await the fourth team from Northern Conference D. Will it be Ranchers Bees, who are currently topping the table with 20 points, or Jigawa United, who are trailing closely with 18 points? Both teams play away in their last match as the Super 4 Draws is scheduled for 24th April this year.

For Lagos football, it is a statement moment. Three clubs from Nigeria’s commercial capital will now battle in the nation’s elite division, a resurgence that underlines the city’s growing influence on the domestic game.

From the NNL grind to the NPFL spotlight, Sporting Lagos are back.
