NSC DG Bukola Olopade charges Nigeria Taekwondo athletes on Podium Success at African Championship in Mali:

Director General  of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, has paid a working visit to the National trials of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, urging the team to aim for Podium success at the African taekwondo championships in Bamako, Mali.

The DG's visit is part of the inclusivity policy of the NSC, where every sport gets its desired attention, support and motivation to excel at major continental and global championships.

The Director General said it is very important to demonstrate that every sport  truly matters to the general growth of Nigerian sports under the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigerian sports Economy ( RHINSE ) reforms.

He stresses that this underlines why the past one week has been full of landmark achievements for the country in different sports like Cycling, Weightlifting, Para sports and Athletics.

" I am happy to be here to witness these important trials which underscore the importance the Commission places on the sport of Taekwondo. Let me assure you guys that all your efforts to represent the country and win medals for Nigeria is not taken for granted by the Federal Government".

" As you all would have noticed, there is a shift in the level of seriousness President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is giving to sports that have never been witnessed in the country for a long time. This is why i urged all of you to remain patriotic, committed and disciplined at all times to achieve your goals", he emphasized.

The Director General also commended the leadership of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation led by its President, Tayo Popoola, for the steady and stable growth  of the sport in the last one year.

Meanwhile President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Tayo Popoola, said the visit of the Director General will go a long way to psychologically motivate the athletes ahead of the African Championship.

" What the DG has done today cannot be quantified and over the years, these are some of the missing pieces in the administration of Sports in Nigeria. I am not surprised at all because the duo of Hon Bukola Olopade and Mallam Shehu Dikko, have really repositioned Nigerian sports on the right path".

The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation is currently holding its National trials in Abeokuta, Ogun state where athletes from all over the country are jostling to make the Team Nigeria squad to Bamako, Mali, for the African Championship, scheduled to hold from the 28th of May to the 2nd of June 2026.
