CIVIC, VOTER EDUCATION DRIVE IGNITES NEW GENERATION OF DEMOCRACY CHAMPIONS:

_Informed Citizens and Stronger Democracy!_

NYSC Orientation Camp Isẹyin, Oyo State.

The National Youth Service Corps, in collaboration with Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI), has commenced the training of 2026 Batch B Stream I Corps Volunteers for the KDI/NYSC Civic and Voter Education (CVE) Community Development Service (CDS) at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin, Oyo State. Facilitated by KDI Trainer, Mr. Umar Muhammad, the capacity-building sensitisation equipped corps members with the knowledge and practical skills required to serve as Civic and Voter Education facilitators in communities across all Local Government Areas of the state.

The initiative is designed to strengthen civic consciousness, promote democratic values and encourage informed participation in governance and electoral processes.

During the interactive training, participants were exposed to the principles of civic responsibility, electoral participation, community engagement and leadership, reinforcing the critical role of young people in sustaining democratic institutions. The lecture underscored the importance of empowering corps members as change agents who will drive voter education, foster active citizenship and inspire greater public involvement in democratic processes at the grassroots.

The programme aligns with the NYSC’s mandate of national development through community service, leadership development and youth empowerment, while advancing the shared vision of building enlightened, responsible and participatory communities.

As part of activities marking the inauguration of the CDS group, members democratically elected their executive officers through an open ballot process. The positions of President, Secretary and Public Relations Officer (PRO) were filled, providing the newly established group with a leadership structure to coordinate its activities throughout the service year.

The successful conduct of the election reflected the democratic ideals promoted during the training and reinforced the programme’s guiding philosophy of Civil and Voter Education: Informed Citizens, Stronger Democracy.
