Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Welcomes Team Nigeria's Medal Hauling Paralympians From Tokyo

I am proud of these Paralympians, the same way am proud of every athlete wearing the Nigerian color to compete on behalf of Nigerians.

Just qualifying to the Olympics is a big deal, and they have gone there, made Nigeria Proud. I am here to receive them, the same way I did to other athletes that have gone out to represent Nigeria.

Some of the things you are seeing are the evidences of works done two, three years ago, not just on the part of the government, but also on the part of the athletes, the discipline, sacrifice, consistency, training, we added a bit of support to them, by giving them the right camping, enable them travel round the world, and we have seen the results today.

We have developed a model to sustain the progress and the new trajectory, like going into public private partnership, adopt-an-athlete initiative, where athletes get  10 to 20 thousand US Dollars and other supports. We hope to set up a definite program for them. We are going to have open trials, we need new talents, to replace those growing old. In the next two weeks, we will start open trials for ten different sports, put them in a training program, to build the reservoir of talents we need in the next Olympics and Commonwealth games.

Every Nigerian that competes has brought glory to Nigeria.

We thanked the Paralympians for bringing medals, as I always say, there is ability in their disabilities. We celebrate and respect them, we like what they do for our country and we will continue to support them.

The Hon Minister, then sent a  message to Nigerians:

Beyond government and Ministry, i want to call on all Nigerians to  celebrate these athletes, because they went to compete with the bests in the world.

Secondly, i want to call on individuals and corporate bodies to key into the public private partnership, adopt-an-athlete and other initiatives, to support them. They need money for their coaches, nutrition, technical assistance. Individual and corporate bodies to support them.

Every one that wants to reach out to them can get information on the Sports Ministry's website, all their profiles are online, they can be easily reached and determine what you want to give, sign an MoU with the athletes, whatever given goes directly into the Athletes' accounts.
