These athletes do not  primarily compete for themselves, they compete for Nigeria.They have shown dexterity in various sports, proving their mettle competition after competition; they are committed to bringing honour and glory to our nation . They stand for Nigeria on the international stage, the biggest sporting event, the Olympics against all odds. Nigerian sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan, has been named as Nigeria's flagbearer for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games taking place on Thursday, July 26 at the Seine, in the heart of Paris.  This implies that Amusan becomes the first athlete from the athletics team to hold this honour in 20 years, following in the footsteps of Mary Onyali who was the flagbearer at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
