The Aisha Buhari Cup, an international women's football invitational tournament whose inaugural edition holds in Lagos, Nigeria next month has the potentials to boost the development of women's football and unite the nation. Tokyo 2020 Paralympics: Bose Omolayo Wins Gold For Nigeria

Sets New World Record In Powerlifting. Team Nigeria's Bose Omolayo displayed high level resilience and dexterity on Sunday to clinch the country's second gold medal of the ongoing Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.  Omolayo came out tops in the women's Powerlifting 79kg category and capped her remarkable showing with a World Record when she lifted 141kg, earning her a standing ovation from the spectators in the arena. The heartwarming display also threw Team Nigeria's camp into jubilation, raising the morale of the other athletes ahead of their events for the remaining days of the Games. With two gold and two bronze medals, Nigeria now sits in the 27th position on the medals table, after Day Seven, as the highest placed African nation at the Games.

The President of the Nigerian Power Para Lifting Federation, Mr Ruel Ishaku has expressed his gratitude to the Hon Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, for his unprecedented support to the para athletes. In his interview with CKD Media, he quipped that " I want to thank the Honourable Minister Sunday Dare, for boosting the Morales of the Para Athletes with huge sum of money, as winning bonuses." He then affirmed that the support enjoyed by the Para Athletes has never happened in the history of of Paralympics, and added " a very big thank you to the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development." He further stated that the Team Nigeria went to Tokyo Paralympics with 10 Para Athletes and have won 2 Gold, 2 Bronze Medals so far. Lucy Ejike Wins Bronze Medal

  The team captain of Nigeria to Paralympics game Tokyo, Lucy Ejike who won bronze medal with only one lift , after her two others lifts were disqualified.  More thanks to her burning enthusiasm to excel with her first lift gave her 130kg that edged out most other opponents.  Ejike 135kg second and third lifts were disqualified respectively, if she had push for 132kg she would have won a gold medal in this category .  With this victory team Nigeria have two medals already . A gold medal from Latifat Tijani and a bronze medal from Lucy Ejike the team captain.

TIJANI Latifat became the first athlete to pick Nigeria's medal in Tokyo2020, she put up a scintillating performance after her first lift of 105kg  was disallowed.  The Ogun state born athlete, came back strong with burning enthusiasm to write her name in gold with her second attempt of 105kg and her third attempt was 107kg but she did that in a style with 117kg in her fourth attempt getting close to world record of 118kg to lift the first medal for team Nigeria in Tokyo. With this gold medal, this is Nigeria's 71st medal in Paralympics.

Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare has described the demise of former Chairman of Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye as a huge loss to the nation. Describing the late politician as a strong advocate of democracy, Dare acknowledged the roles played by the late Senator in the sustenance of democratic virtues at all levels of government.   Sports Minister Announces Cash Awards for Medalists *As Team Nigeria Records Best Ever Outing with 3 Gold, 2 Bronze.  The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has announced cash awards for Team Nigeria athletes who win medals at the ongoing World Athletics U20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya where 200 countries are competing. Last Batch of Team Nigeria Finally Departs Tokyo Today

The last batch of the Team Nigeria to the Tokyo Paralympics departed the shores of Nigeria this morning, via an Ethiopian Airline.  The Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria was at the bairport to receive the Nigerian Delegations. The Nigerian Delegations was led by the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Nebolisa Abako.  Among other notable dignitaries in the last batch to Tokyo, were Media Aide to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr Kọla Daniel Adeyanju, SA Projects Architect Biodun Owoborode, the General Manager of NTA Mr. Fẹmi Johnson, and host of others.  The Paralympics will commence on Tuesday, 26th August 2021. It would be recalled, that in the last edition Paralympics, the Team Nigeria hauled 12 medals. The Team is now hopeful to surpass the last record.
